Sulbha Kaushal Rai, Chief People Officer, RenewBuy speaks to India Employer Forum about implementing the agile philosophy in HR management.

She says, “We have been using it in our organisation without really calling it agile, but I think we have been extremely proactive and there are various processes and practices that we have implemented that fall under the agile methodology. We, as HR, are responsible for collecting feedback from our employees. Earlier, we had a format of one-on-one connections and there was also some kind of survey that would happen but that was once a year.  So, to be able to proactively understand and hear the voice of the people, we thought we needed to innovate and think differently. My workforce is also very distributed. It’s not that everyone sits in one office. My people are spread across 150 cities of the country, so to be able to connect with all of them and to know what’s going on, and how are they feeling, we invested in an AI chatbot which enabled people to connect and freely speak, and it was promoted as Sulbha’s assistant, so they felt they can directly speak with me and share their feedback”.

“What motivated us to do that was that we wanted to hear real-time feedback, we didn’t want to be reactive. When somebody resigns and then we get into the mode of understanding what happened, why did you resign, etc, it is too late. This tool gives a lot of insights. If there is disengagement or a person is not feeling great for whatever reason, they’re able to freely share, and we, as HR, get the prompt much earlier. The HR team can connect with the employees and respond to the needs of the people. So, it’s very proactive and the results have been great”.
