Recruitment has undergone a sea change, and this isn’t just a clichéd expression. Employers realize that there is a myriad of ways to attract new talent and bring pertinent skill sets on board. The days of a nominal print ad serving the purpose are long gone.

Innovative staffing managers now see ‘recruitment marketing’ as a purpose-led, year-long activity that trumps any other HR function. Under this name comes identifying talented individuals from an eclectic group – and this requires some out-of-the-box measures. It is such an absorbing activity because it needs HR personnel to keep stock of recruitment trends, social media platforms, networking platforms such as LinkedIn, and then snaring the interest of a list of probable candidates through sound employee value propositions.

HR personnel is also exceedingly conscious of the fact that the recruitment process and practices are evolving year on year.

Top recruitment trends this year – a look into why they are effective:

The approach to recruitment itself has to be more thorough these days because job-seekers may or may not actively announce that they look to change jobs. They might be on the lookout for better opportunities, but they would regard them coolly, weighing each proposition against a selection of factors. Some of these are growth potential at the job, employee development initiatives such as training programs and workshops, work-flexibility, work-life balance, and employee engagement activities. A mix of these factors is carefully evaluated by these passive job-seekers before they accept a job. Hiring managers who follow recruitment best practices have to be able to show credible evidence of these aspects of the job in order to generate interest in the employee value proposition package.

Gamification is one of the latest recruitment trends. It is a recruiting process in which questions and tests in the form of gaming are introduced to a candidate. Not only is this deeply engaging, but it’s also extremely revealing of the candidate’s true personality and strengths. Gamification scenarios are such that interviewees cannot bluff their way through or give prepared stock answers. They will need to solve game scenarios. A job application can contain a gamification-led questionnaire in which candidates have to solve mini-games. Ability to answer these questions also shows how suitable the employee is to the company’s work environment.

Artificial intelligence in recruiting is an important recruitment trend that promises reduced bias in the process without losing the human element. From writing the perfect job posting to culling through fake profiles and judging video interviews, artificial intelligence can help in every stage and routes better candidates towards symbiotic roles.

Since bright candidates (62% of them) make their way to a company’s careers page on the website, it is up to the recruiters to make this section current and user-friendly to make inbound recruitment a success.

73% of candidates have found their last job on a social media site. It is likely that they have been following the company’s social media pages and following their activities and promotions – these need to be up-to-date and attractive to snare the best talent.

In addition, use of tools like Textio, Candidate Relationship Management, HR Analytics and databases like Talent Pool have a proven track record in being useful among the top recruitment trends in reaching and snagging candidates that are the right fit for a company.
