Top 10 In Demand IT Skills In India 2020

LinkedIn’s latest new emerging jobs report shows that technology skills will continue to be the in demand IT skills in India in the year 2020. Apart from Blockchain Development, which has grown steadily in the last five years, there are other technical roles like Artificial Intelligence Specialist, Javascript Developer and Robotic Process Automation Consultant that will be in high demand in India.

The professional networking site collated this report by utilizing the data of 62 million Indian users between 2015 and 2019. These 15 emerging jobs have seen tremendous growth in the last five years indicating a long-term trend. Since India’s emergence as a global economic power has largely been associated with the IT sector, it is hardly surprising that most of these roles come from the technology domain. While the hard tech skills are more in demand, it has also increased the demand for talent that is responsible for growing business with the help of digital technologies.

According to a McKinsey Report, India is the second fastest digitizing economy in the world after Indonesia and is turning out to be the third largest start-up hub in the world. Bengaluru is increasingly being referred to as the new Silicon Valley. These trends are also reflecting in LinkedIn’s list of in demand skills in India and we have highlighted below the top 10 IT skills from their report:

1. Blockchain Developer

Blockchain developers develop and optimize blockchain protocols, design the architecture of blockchain systems and build products and services associated with technology. The ‘in demand skills’ include Hyperledger, Node.js, Smart Contract and Solidity. While India’s public sector is the largest consumer, BFSI and healthcare sectors are increasingly using blockchain technology as well. Other top industries hiring blockchain developers include information technology and services, computer software and internet mainly in cities like Bengaluru, Hyderabad and New Delhi.

2. Artificial Intelligence Specialist

They essentially work on getting machines to retain data, automate processes, perceive the environment and take autonomous decisions to achieve the desired goals. Indian businesses are increasingly recognizing the role of AI and machine learning in improving economic growth, cyber security and global health and education. Top industries hiring Artificial Intelligence Specialists include IT, ITeS, Computer Software, Internet, Research and Education Management mainly in the cities of Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune. The key skills required for the role include machine learning, deep learning, TensorFlow, Python and NLP.

3. JavaScript Developer

The core elements of this job involve programming, development and implementation of a website. While most JavaScript developers are employed to work on front-end systems, the programming language is extremely versatile making it the in-demand skill. The key skills for this role include Node.js, AngularJS, React.js, React Native and MongoDB. The top industries hiring for this role are IT, ITeS, Computer Software, Internet, BFSI and Education Management mainly in the cities of Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Mumbai.

4. Robotic Process Automation (RPA) Consultant

Their job description involves working with organizations to understand their needs and how their business can adopt RPA for the maximum benefit. RPA is the process of creating software robots to automate manual business processes. The key skills required by an RPA consultant include UiPath, Automation Anywhere, Blue Prism, Process Automation and SQL. The top industries recruiting for this role are IT, ITeS, Computer Software, Accounting, Management Consulting and Information Services mainly located in Bengaluru and Mumbai.

5. Back-end Developer

This role mainly involves maintaining data and Application Program Interfaces (APIs) along with testing and debugging systems. Back-end developers with extensive work experience are usually in high demand and the types of skills that the hiring manager looks for are Node.js, MongoDB, JavaScript, Django and MySQL. Industries that recruit for this role include IT, ITes, Computer Software, Internet, BFSI and E-learning. 

6. Growth Manager

This role involves use of growth hacking techniques to get more buyers or users and could be a combination of product, business development or marketing role. Growth Managers use large subsets of data to derive market insights and spot new opportunities to ensure optimal business growth. The key skills required for this role includes business development, marketing strategy, market research, digital marketing, growth strategies and team management. The top industries employing these skills include Food & Beverage, Internet, IT, Financial Services and Marketing and Advertising.

7. Site Reliability Engineer (SRE)

It is a role that requires incorporating a software engineering approach to system administration areas. The types of skills required in this job are transferable to various other engineering roles like cloud engineer and full stack engineer. The in demand skills include Amazon Web Services (AWS), Ansible, Docker Products, Kubernetes and Jenkins. Top industries hiring SREs include Computer Software, IT, Internet, Financial Services, Telecommunication, Marketing and Advertising.

8. Customer Success Specialist

They are entrusted with proactively understanding the core client needs and how the organization can address them. They typically require a combination of people skills like customer relationship management and team management along with hard tech skills like SaaS. Top industries hiring for this role include IT, Computer Software, Internet, Marketing and Advertising and financial services in cities like Bengaluru, Mumbai and New Delhi.

9. Full Stack Engineer

This role involves a combination of front-end web development and software development skills which means they can run a project from start to finish. The key skills required include Node.js, AngularJS, React.js, MongoDB and JavaScript. Full Stack Engineers are being increasingly hired in industries like IT, Computer Software, Financial Services, Internet and Marketing and Advertising.

10. Robotics Engineer (Software)

Robotics engineers working on both physical and virtual bots are in huge demand in industries like IT, Computer Software, Industrial Automation and Electricals and Electronic Manufacturing. The main skills required include RPA, UiPath, Blue Prism, Robotics and SQL.

This LinkedIn report on emerging jobs gives a great insight into the changing landscape of the future of work, the rise in digitization and the increasing investment in blockchain. While IT skills are still the ‘in demand skills’, people skills like account management and customer retention continue to demonstrate the importance of human intervention at every step of digitization.
