The hiring scene has been evolving a lot over the years and decades with technologies and practices being introduced every year. Human resources has been at the forefront of everything that concerns the hiring scene of an organisation. In 2023, the future of hiring in the context of India looks different than the previous years. In the year 2023, there will be a lot of change in the future of hiring in India and we will discuss some of the key trends and challenges that will come up.

Some of the trends that will be observed in the future of hiring in India are as follows:

  • Use of technology:  We have been observing an increased use in technology in the hiring space in India, and it will continue well into 2023.  More companies will be using Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in order to increase the efficiency of streamlining the process of hiring in India. Chatbots have been on the rise in many companies in India, and we will see more companies that will use them to clarify and answer queries of candidates to provide them with instant support.
  • Recruitment of Gen Z: The companies are working towards leveraging Gen Z as their talent onboards by trying to create more specialised programmes that Gen Z would find an affinity for. Forbes data suggests that more than 27% of the global workforce by 2025 will be Gen Z.

  • Hybrid recruitment: Amidst the global pandemic, one thing has become common in the workspace, which is the functioning of the hybrid mode of work. Candidates are looking for work-life balance more than ever, and the recruiters are trying their best to consider hybrid-mode work for recruitment in order to secure the top talents in the country. The hybrid model and work from home culture can be foreseen growing more than ever in the coming years and will be observed for the future of hiring in the country.
  • Personalised onboarding: The first ninety days in an organisation shape the way an employee finds their way around the organisation, how connected they feel to it, etc. So there is an avenue opening up for the personalised onboarding of potential candidates for their needs and requirements.
  • Emphasis on soft skills: While technical skills will be necessary for the future of hiring in India, soft skills will have an equal weightage in terms of making it through the hiring process. Companies in India are looking at the communication skills, problem-solving abilities, and team skills to ascertain if a candidate is suitable to build the emotional intelligence of the company.
  • Diversity and inclusion:  Although this is an aspect that has been looked into for the last few years, it is now very important for the future of hiring in India. Employees need to be recruited without any biases playing into the matter. There needs to be gender equality, and equality on the terms of backgrounds they come from, sexual orientation they have, dismantling the caste system, etc. A diverse and inclusive workspace not only leads to better emotional intelligence, but also ascertains that different perspectives are brought into the table that will help in more efficiency and productivity in the output.
  • Gig economy: The future of hiring will observe the gig economy to be on the rise. Freelance and part-time workers will become more common and prominent in the scene, as they will be hired based on short-term project-roles to close certain projects for the company. This enables the platforms for freelancers to grow. Candidates will be able to work on their own terms and needs. 

There are certain challenges in the future of hiring in India that need to be taken care of:

  • Skill gap: Skill gap remains one of the top concerns for the future of hiring. In areas such as AI, cybersecurity, data sciences, there is a huge skill gap that needs to be filled. With technology evolving at a rapid speed, companies will struggle to find the correct candidates for their needs.
  • Talent retention: Companies will have to up their game in providing security and benefits to employees, providing a positive work culture, and adding challenges to the employees’ roles so that they can learn and grow. These factors will enable talent retention in an otherwise competitive environment where talent is consistently looking out for newer and better opportunities. The future of hiring will take care of this aspect.
  • Competition for candidates: Candidates will have to compete not only with other employees from other traditional industries, but with the gig economy on the rise, they will also have to compete with top freelance workers. The companies, keeping the future of hiring in mind, will have to introduce benefits and healthy career opportunities which are competitive in order to retain their top employees.

The future of hiring in India is looking robust, with new aspects coming into the scene that will mark 2023 as a turning point in the economy. The challenges listed here need to be taken care of to be able to make the future of hiring in India in the year 2023 more promising and rewarding.
