Yogesh Kumar, General Manager – Corporate HR, Uniparts India Ltd. speaks to India Employer Forum about technology impacting business and workforce, people management and more.

He said, “When anyone gets this kind of opportunity to lead the people or manage people, which is a very critical aspect of people management, one needs to listen to what people are thinking about. They sometimes have fear and negativity in their mind, and they need to help them relax. Say, don’t worry I’m with you and I understand your needs and wants. Being a leader or first-time manager, one needs to understand what the goal is; to know every team member and align their individual goals with the company’s values, so that there is a good feeling among the team members that my leader is talking about my personal goals. Hence, he will work on it and automatically people will start connecting with their leader.”

“Also, the leader has to focus on the job training, have a proper mechanism, see how and what team members are doing and focus on his reviewing progress, how he’s giving constructive actionable feedback for their further development. They need to think about how they can take every team member to the next level and develop them accordingly. Give them some specific project or assignment, do benchmarking and also think about their career aspirations and accordingly give them roles and responsibilities. My Philosophy is that I always believe that my success depends on the success of my people. I cannot be successful in isolation.
