“The regulatory compliance landscape in India is highly dynamic, with an average of 16 updates per day. In FY22-23 alone, there were as many as 5,986 updates w.r.t compliance requirements. These regulatory changes are notified on over 2,000 union, state, and local government websites in the form of notifications, directions, circulars, advisories, orders, amendments, and so on. More often than not, these regulatory updates pertain to crucial changes in procedures, dates, penalties, calculations, and applicable duties, among others. Did you know that just last month (February 2024), there were a total of 688 regulatory updates across union and state legislations? 65% of these updates occurred at the union level, while the rest 35% were accounted for at the state level. Across the compliance categories, industry-specific regulations underwent a significant chunk of updates (~43.2%), followed by finance and taxation (~19.8%), secretarial (~14.7%), labour (~9.5%), commercial (~8.1%), and environment, safety and health (~4.7%).
