The ‘Changing’ IT Job Market

The IT job market is extremely competitive, but this isn’t the case just for job seekers. Companies and organizations are doing everything to make their employment opportunity as appealing as possible.

The hiring intention for IT professionals of corporate India shows a decline by 5% than the previous six months. This is happening in the IT job market just because there has been a growing demand for abilities with novelty or new set of skills creeping at a high pace in the tech job market in India. The entire landscape of IT Job market is changing as the demand for not only technical skills but also adaptability, critical and analytical thinking and leadership skills has been raised from the employers in the past few years. On the other hand, candidates are seeking for such work that would work for them. Hence, the combination of both is creating such an IT Job Market environment which was never seen before in ages. It is the environment of dynamism and volatility.

According to a report, the IT job market is getting in sync with megatrends of emerging technology. Because of this synchronization at such a rapid pace, by the year 2021 a huge talent deficit is expected. The credit for this shortage can be given to Artificial intelligence and Big Data.

Trending IT jobs in India

Machine learning engineer, application development analyst, back-end developer, full-stack engineer and data scientist constitute the top five trending jobs in India. The data shows that the top five job roles grew at a rapid rate between the year 2013 to 2017 in the IT job market. This data strengthens the idea that the country’s job market has made a major shift from traditional engineering jobs to those which require talent for new sets of skills. The prominent titles just a few years ago were software engineer or senior business analyst.

Machine learning, which is a new buzz word in India, is a branch of Artificial Intelligence to produce automated data modelling. In our country where more and more businesses are moving focus and resources to big data and digital products, automatically a huge demand for machine learning engineers and data scientists booms up in the tech job market.

The second fastest growing role is application development analysts who develop, test, support and troubleshoot computer-based applications for the clients. Back end developer, the job title is self-explanatory, develops back-end in web applications and important functions like the database. A project is run from start to finish by a full-stack engineer who also makes it user friendly.

When it comes to qualifications for the jobs of machine learning or data scientists most of the candidates are just possessing a bachelor’s degree implying that companies give them on-the-job training. Thus, they make it very difficult for the firms to find the industry-ready candidates in the IT job market. The explosion of data has created a massive demand for data scientists in the tech job market across the country with Mumbai and Delhi/NCR witnessing maximum competition for this post.
