TCS To Take Over 1,300 GM India Engineering Unit’s Staff

Tata Consultancy Services will take over 1,300 people from General Motors’ India engineering centre after it won a large, five-year engineering services contract from the American carmaker.

Analysts have estimated the value of the contract at $600-700 million. This could be one of the largest deals for TCS in its automotive vertical, they said. TCS did not reveal the value of the contract. Queries to General Motors India on the changed headcount at  changed headcount at its Bengaluru centre did not elicit a response until press time on Monday.

Under the terms of the agreement, TCS will acquire employees at the GM Technical Center – India, who are working in areas like propulsion systems, vehicle engineering, controls development, testing, creative design and special projects. It will also partner with GM to support its global vehicle programmes with engineering design services over the next five years. The Bengaluru centre has contributed to several innovations in global vehicle portfolio, GM said.
