Airport Trolley Workers to Get Gratuity Now

Conciliation proceedings by the Labour Commissioner have ensured that 23 baggage trolley workers at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport will finally receive gratuity within a fortnight.

The Niswarth Kamgar Sanghatana, a union of airport baggage trolley workers, had moved the Labour Commissioner on December 5, 2018 regarding harassment of trolley workers by the contractor M/s Posh Decor which operates baggage trolleys at the airport.

It was revealed on January 28 that the issues resolved around terminal benefits of workers. The union demanded a proper legal system to address complaints of discrimination, harassment and issues pertaining to retirement benefits.

Thus, the said complaint was converted to an industrial dispute and the parties were advised to resolve the issues amicably. Conciliation proceedings were held on four occasions, with the final one on May 22.
