Tech Cos Making Efforts To Improve Gender Diversity

Tech companies like TCS, Infosys, SAP Labs India, AMD, Texas Instruments, Cognizant, Mindtree, Mphasis are set to crack the gender diversity code. These companies are building initiatives like hiring more women at all levels, upskilling and leadership programmes for women to even providing support to women employees in terms of flexibility at work that may further improve the gender balance in the Indian tech space.

The initiatives are likely to push the number of women in tech in India from the current 30% to 36% in a year or two, according to National Association of Software and Services Companies (Nasscom) and recruitment firm TeamLease Services.

Many Nasscom member companies are taking the diversity agenda more seriously than ever. For instance, leaders in few IT companies are making diversity part of their KRAs, something that is happening for the first time. “With tech companies getting more serious about improving diversity, the women numbers are likely to further improve,” Nasscom senior vice president Sangeeta Gupta told ET. This year, over 30,000 women have been hired, most of them at the entry level, according to Team-Lease Services co-founder Rituparna Chakraborty.
