AI And Generative AI Are Major Factors Transforming Our Jobs

Ravi Kumar, Senior President & CPO, Page Industries Ltd. speaks to India Employer Forum about work trends, skill gaps, the rise of automation and more.

He says, “India largely has its dynamic regarding work ethic. I do feel that if I compare it with other places, Indians are people who are focused on delivering, learning something, and ensuring that they move forward. So, there is this whole enthusiasm about skilling, understanding what the organisation wants, understanding what a customer wants and wanting to do something worthwhile and, I think, that sets us apart from a lot of other communities and a lot of other countries as well”.

“There are numerous trends, but I’d rather focus on what’s happening in workplaces similar to ours, particularly in office environments. A significant portion of India is involved in agriculture and construction, as government data shows, but roles like ours are witnessing major changes. One recent trend is the growing emphasis on understanding why an organisation employs people and the purpose behind its business, beyond just making a profit. This is a critical question for many, especially younger employees, who now prioritise working for organisations with a clear purpose and a commitment to making a difference in society. This shift is altering the future of work significantly.

Technology, especially AI and generative AI, is another major factor transforming our jobs. While some roles might become obsolete, new opportunities are being created, and the nature of work is evolving. HR professionals, for example, will need to adapt and integrate more with technology, altering their approach to working with both people and tech. Additionally, today’s workforce is increasingly focused on life beyond work. The concept of work-life balance is expanding to include well-being and personal fulfilment. People now seek to utilise their strengths not only in business but also in contributing to society and pursuing creative interests. This broader perspective on life will drive organisations to rethink how roles are structured to accommodate these diverse priorities.”
