Tech Startups Beef Up Teams Via CXO-level Hiring

Hiring by consumer technology startups has picked up pace, driven by a strong bounce-back the segment has seen in recent months.

Most companies in the edtech, medtech, beauty, food and other segments are beefing up their top management and leadership teams by hiring CXOs and category heads.

The salaries being offered, say experts, have swelled to nearly a crore, as many candidates have offers from multiple companies. Companies such as Wakefit, Classplus, Sugar Cosmetics, Purplle, ID Foods, Nykaa, Sharechat, JioSaavn and Codeyoung have either hired CXOs in the last three months or are in the process of inducting them, according to some of the companies and data from executive search firm Xpheno.

“As a technology-led direct-to-consumer brand, Wakefit.co has seen tremendous tailwinds in business recovery in the pandemic era. As customers discover broader value propositions from ecommerce beyond discounts, our growth has necessitated many more CXO hires,” said Chaitanya Ramalingegowda, a cofounder of mattress maker Wakefit.co. “Our CFO and head of supply chain were hired just a couple of months ago. We are looking to onboard more CXO-level leaders for different departments in the coming quarter.”
