Education Ministry Likely To Introduce Norms To Bridge Students’ Digital Divide

New Delhi: The Centre will in the next few days suggest alternative learning tools and mediums such as radio and TV to teach children with no access to devices or internet and whose academics have come to a standstill after the pandemic.

Building on its recently announced digital education guidelines, Pragyata, the HRD ministry is likely to recommend educational programmes broadcast by AIR and Doordarshan and community learning to help students to bridge the learning gap.

The ministry is also likely to ask states to share with children without learning devices the alternative academic calendar NCERT had devised to enable self-learning.

“We have asked states to map all such students to ensure that learning assistance can be made available to them amid the pandemic. We are very alive to the concern and will be issuing specific advisories and guidelines to ensure the gap is addressed,” a senior official told ET.

The ministry’s move comes days after the parliamentary standing committee meeting which expressed concern over a whole segment of students deprived of education due to lack of access to devices or the internet.
