Tech Companies go for Edtech Tie-ups to get that Ready Workforce

Amid disruption and rapid evolution of skills needed at the workplace, technology firms have a new modus operandi — partnering edtech firms

Companies like Wipro, Accenture, IBM and others are tying up with edtech partners like upGrad, Simplilearn and Udacity to have a ready-trained workforce they can deploy on projects. Additional benefits include minimal training cost incurred post recruitment and a lesser churn as learners develop more ownership in their roles.

The edtech firms provide campus recruits the required platform, content, assignments and project work in their last semester of college to ensure they are prepared with programming skills and emerging digital skills before they join.

“Companies on an average spend a minimum of Rs 30,000 to a maximum of Rs 1.5 lakh per fresher to hire and train them. Through this route, companies can reduce this cost by as much as 50-60%,” said Mayank Kumar, co-founder of upGrad.

Wipro runs a pre-joining programme under which campus hires are trained on various technology skills covering both foundation and emerging digital skills.

More than 12,000 candidates are being put through the courses this year, said Anurag Seth, head of talent transformation at Wipro.
