Election Results: Startup Ecosystem to Restart Talks on a Range of Issues With Modi Government

With the Narendra Modi-led government coming back to power, India’s startup ecosystem is preparing to restart multiple conversations spread across a range of issues at the earliest.

Startup listing norms, dual-class share structures, greater clarity around the draft e-commerce rules and converting the Aadhaar ordinance into law are on top of the agenda for various digital economy representatives that have been holding consultations with policy makers, various ministries and government institutions.

“Once the new government takes office, we are ready to begin consultations. The moment the swearing-in ceremony is done, we will be ready to swing into action,” Rameesh Kailasam, chief executive of IndiaTech, the consumer internet-focused advocacy group, said. The industry grouping has been leading efforts to establish listing norms for startups, along with pushing for differential voting rights, which will allow founders to maintain control while having shareholding in the single to low double-digit range. The PMO had sought recommendations from all stakeholders and held a meeting on the issue last month.
